Sometimes a child answers “How was school?” with “Fine,” and “What did you do?” with “Nothing.” Then ten minutes later, while you are doing something ordinary, every detail of the day comes pouring out.
Sometimes they just need our attention
Between meals, laundry, errands and messages, it is easy to promise that we will sit down later. What if we offered ten minutes of undivided attention now? No phone, no multitasking, just time together.
Make it their time
Let your child choose whether to draw, build something, talk or simply sit beside you. Ask what made them laugh today, whether anything felt difficult, or whether someone was kind. Share a little about your own day too.
Before we know it
Children grow, interests change and the little voices asking us to play get older. The best gift is often our presence, not a present.
From our family to yours: What is your favorite way to spend one-on-one time with your child?
