Start with what you own
Look for an old basket, a wooden crate, a glass jar, a pitcher or a serving tray. Gather a few things together rather than spreading decorations everywhere. One cheerful corner can make a big difference.
Bring a little outdoors inside
Branches with colorful leaves, pinecones and garden clippings can be beautiful. Check natural items for insects and moisture before bringing them indoors.
Let children help
Invite children to arrange pumpkins, make paper leaves or draw little signs. Their arrangements may not look like a magazine photo, but homemade touches make a house feel like home.
